Grace Place Classes Take a Summer Break!

Sunday, June 9th, was the last meeting of our regular school year Sunday children's Grace Place. We are encouraging families to use this break to worship together. Children may not truly have a sense of belonging to the family of God until the church becomes a child's place of worship. Nurture in both studying the Word of God and the act of worshiping together are both important in the faith formation of young and old alike. They learn how to worship as you model worship for them and help them engage in the parts of the service. Watch for tips and resources for worshiping together this summer.

See you in worship this summer!

"Salaam Isa" Mission Society - Sparrow's Nest

September 7th at 10:00 am
Fairfax Church of Christ

Sparrow's Nest is a refuge for women who are abandoned or abused because of their faith in Christ. New believers from Muslim backgrounds are often persecuted by their families. The primary goal of Sparrow's Nest is to guide each woman to realize her self-worth and identity as a daughter of the King of Kings, as well as empower them to reach their full potential. Women receive education and training as they work toward financial independence.

Find out how you can help at a brunch Saturday, September 7th, from 10:00 am to noon, at Fairfax Church of Christ, 3901 Rugby Road. Register by September 5th by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

For more information, contact Yvette Moy, field worker with Crescent Project, an organization committed to sharing Christ's love with Muslim people.

New For The Fall - Doing Life Together Groups

This fall we are starting a new series of small groups at Our Savior’s Way called "Doing Life Together" or DLT groups. A DLT group is not a Bible study, but a group where people can have honest conversations about faith, share their understanding of God, and the purpose of life. These groups will meet in people’s homes, in restaurants, at work, or wherever people are comfortable and can share fellowship with each other.

Each DLT group will focus on these five questions:

  1. Seeking the Kingdom – How did you see God at work this week?
  2. Hearing from Jesus – What has Jesus been teaching you in His Word?
  3. Talking with People – What kind of conversations have you been having with people to share your faith?
  4. Doing Good – What good can we do around here?
  5. Ministering through Prayer – How can we help you in prayer?

Our goal is to start five new DLT groups this fall. Please keep this ministry in your prayers.

For more information, contact Pastor Peterson.

What are DLT Groups?

As Our Savior’s Way is working towards our new mission and vision, we recognize the need to restructure our Doing Life Together (DLT) Small Groups to better meet the relational and spiritual needs of the people here at our church and in our community. These groups are different from those that are based on one topic or a Bible study, which are likely to come to an end after a series is over. Instead, DLT Groups are focused on forming relationships and giving people the opportunity to be fully known by one another in a Christian community just as God intended when He created us. DLT Groups are structured in a way to allow people to meet together where everyone is comfortable, including friends who don’t attend church. As a group gets larger, after at least a year of developing close relationships, it will intentionally split to form new groups so each individual can continue to feel heard and cared for, which is difficult with a larger group.

All DLT Groups will discuss the sermon each week and use the same set of questions to focus on our mission statement: “At Our Savior’s Way, we glorify God and make disciples for Jesus by: Forming Relationships, Experiencing Jesus Together, and Sharing God’s Love.”

If you are interested in learning more about these groups or becoming a leader of one of these groups, please contact Pastor Eric Peterson at This email address is being protected from spambots. On August 18th, there will be a Group Connect Event to help you choose a group that fits your needs. We hope you will join a DLT group!

Haiti Ministry Update

Last week the twelve Haiti mission team members spent time with Dr. Franco and the children at Generations of Hope (Go-Haiti) orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. They were able to take 13 suitcases filled with clothes, hygiene products, diapers, children’s activities, garden supplies, pillowcase dresses (thank you Penny), a parachute, and books.

Their time was filled with projects that included: enhancing property security, working in the garden, teaching food preservation, contingency planning, and leading a Vacation Bible School. The compound wall continues to be built up and raised to its planned height. Garden terraces were built, and the garden from last year was cleaned and maintained. The team dehydrated mangos, papaya, and plantains, installed fire extinguishers, and trained for firefighting and fire drills. The VBS was a blessing for over 185 children. The team distributed Creole and French Bibles, served at a community feeding, attended church service at the orphanage, had a popcorn and movie night with the children, and treated the orphanage to an end-of-the-school-year s'mores party--None of the children or staff at the orphanage had ever heard of s'mores before!

The team felt at home with the incredible orphanage staff who they have come to know and love over the years. But mostly, they were blessed by every minute spent with the children playing, talking, singing, and sharing.

“Mesi anpil” (thank you very much) to all who support this ministry in so many ways including your prayers.

It's Okay to Be Human

We’re brought up to be strong, self-sufficient, independent people. We tend to think that if we ask for help, it’s a sign of weakness. So we try to keep our struggles hidden, stuffed deep inside. However, that’s not God’s plan. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” God wants us to care for others—and allow others to care for us in our time of need. If you’re sad or struggling inside, don’t suffer alone. Ask for help. We’ve got a team of Stephen Ministers who are ready to listen, care, encourage, pray, and help you through a tough time. Men are matched with men and women with women. It’s completely confidential too! To find out more about Stephen Ministry for you or someone you know, talk with one of our Stephen Ministry Leaders: Carol Rosicky or Kay and Tom Lewis.

Volunteers Needed-What a Blessing!

Over the course of four days last week, the Social Ministries Committee received over 6,000 pounds of prepared burritos that they were able to get into the hands of those in need in our local community. Thanks to the generosity of a brand new Chipotle, and the volunteer efforts of Polly Middleton, Sophie Phillips, Steve Colvin, and Marshall Colvin, recipient groups including Mobile Hope, Loudoun Youth Shelter, Embry Rucker Shelter, 911 dispatchers, and hundreds of first responders were able to enjoy a hot meal!

We are in need of many volunteers to help with this effort. If you are called to help with this fulfilling effort, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or text Melissa Colvin at 540-460-3476.
