Nicodemus and New Birth

Jesus does not offer Nicodemus religious improvement, but new birth, a new beginning created by the Spirit through God’s grace.
Law: We try to manage our spiritual lives through effort, knowledge, or control, but we cannot give ourselves life.
Gospel: Jesus gives what we cannot produce: new birth by water and the Spirit, grounded in God’s love and received by faith.
